'Allo 'Allo: Comparisons with Secret Army

Thanks to the before mentioned cross-references that provide the basic storyline of the entire series and thanks to the fact that these cross-references are accompanied by classic farce set-ups, physical comedy, visual gags, a large amount of sexual innuendos and spoofs of cultural clichés, not to mention the amusingly ridiculous fake accents used by most of the cast, ‘Allo ‘Allo! succeeds to be funny even for those who are not familiar with the “Original”: the drama Secret Army: set in a Brussels café called Le Candide, where the owner Albert Foiret helps Lisa “Yvette” Colbert to hide airmen and control the various members of the "Lifeline" organization as they take the airmen across borders to safer neutral countries.

Their principal enemies are   Ludwig Kessler, an officious officer in the SS, and the more laidback Luftwaffe officer Major Erwin Brandt.

To draw another parallel between the two series, Albert's affair with barmaid Monique Duchamps while his wife Andrée Foiret was bed-ridden must be mentioned.
